The Actual Lifestyle Situations and the Indefinite Complaints of First Graders at Elementary School and the Connection with Their Bedtime and Lifestyle of Their Parents

The purpose of this investigation was to clarify actual lifestyle situations and the indefinite complaints of first graders in an elementary school who hadn't yet studied the school curriculum. We further intended to clarify the association of their lifestyle with their bedtime and/or the lifestyle of their parents. The subjects of the investigation were first graders (n=504) from 2011 to 2016 and their parents (n=246) from 2014 to 2016. There were no gender-based differences indicated in their
more » ... lifestyle habits such as wake-up time and frequency of breakfast consumption, nor in the indefinite complaints. Seventy-five percent of the children who slept late at night woke up late in the morning, while 79% didn't wake up of their own accord, 5% of them skipped breakfast, and above all, 68% felt irritable. Sixty-four percent of parents, whose sons or daughters went to sleep late at night had trouble waking up in the morning. The percentage of children who answered that "they leave food types they dislike" was higher in those children whose parents disliked certain food types. Furthermore, children whose parents had an active interest in food education had appropriate lifestyles.
