Though the secondary curriculur has developed rather r:.ore slowly, this century has seen a broadening of interest in the curriculmi, and a widening of that influence which can ciffect its developr;:ent. With the increase in nurrbers studying at secondary level, the essentiali ty of educr, tion in ,;odern society to both individual and sta.te, the ease of cor:,r"-uJ1ication and the ready acceptance of continuing-change as vital to the future of new South Wales, it seers likely that the secondary curriculurr: will continue to develop, aided by a far g-reater apnlicrtion of technology, and that an even broader cross-section of society will influence that developsent. ii I should like to thank the School of Education at the University of New South Wales and r,1y wife, for their invaluable help in preparing this thesis.
