The Neolithic, as the period when livestock were first domesticated, was a time of major transformations in human-animal relations. These changes affected relations with wild animals as much as with the new domesticate. These changes are discussed in the context of the Near Eastern Neolithic, the earliest and best-studied area of livestock domestication.
