Investigations of the Alpha radio1ysis of LAW/MAW-bitumen Products containing radioactive waste from reprocessing s t.m1Il1ary : This report contains the resu1 ts of the alpha irradiation of simulated bitumen/NaN03-products, originated from reprocessing. 10 g samp1es of On203 and PU02 doped bi turnen waste products were enc1osed in g1ass ampulles in air under standard pressure and arnbient temperature. The samp1es were internally irradiated to a1pha doses of 1.0·108 rad up to 2.4•109 rad. 'Ihe

After irradiation up to the dose mentioned, the ampulles were opened in an evacuated equipment and the gasvo1umes were measured in a gas burette by means of a 11 Töp1er pump" • The composi tion of the gases was determined by gas chromatography. Main component of the a1pha irradiated bitumen products is hydrogen. The average H2-output is of the order of 1.2 m1/g product and 108 rad, which corresponds to a G(H2)-va1ue of 0.47. This va1ue is by a factor 2. 7 higher, compared to the average H2-output of gamma-ray irradiation and a 10 MeV-e1ectron externa1 irradiation of bitumen/NaN03 products.
