Extraction of social context and application to personal multimedia exploration

Personal media collections are often viewed and managed along the social dimension, the places we spend time at and the people we see, thus tools for extracting and using this information are required. We present novel algorithms for identifying socially significant places termed social spheres unobtrusively from GPS traces of daily life, and label them as one of Home, Work, or Other, with quantitative evaluation of 9 months taken from 5 users.
