This stLLdy aimed 重 o clari ' fy the distribution pa し terns of the Castano ρ stS g . pecies and their hybrids in 30 regions in southern Kyushu . ln addition , detailed sIudies were conducted on the hybrid populatlon around the coast 証 a エea of Mt . Inao , which is located on the $outhernmos 匸 tip of Kyushu and the Kugino Woods Tree InheritanGe Resource Prcscrvation Forest located inland . In this rcsearch , the discri 面 nation meth ( ,d of the Castanopsis species based on the structure or lea「epidermis was improved by estublishing the observational area or Lhe specimen through a microscope . The ibllowing thr hybrid し ypes were distinguish じd based on the ratio of one − ce 正 l layers and し wo − cell layers o 「 the leaf epidermis : C − type ( the ratio of one 一 ll layers is high) , H − type ( the ratio o ドone and two − cell layers is almost equa1 ) , and S − type ( the fatio of two − cell layers is high > . From the resuhs , the Kirishima region with its highcr altitudes had on 】 y 〔 he distribut めn of C siebotdii , aDd C cuspidata showed a telldency to be distributed in the reg 童 ons of relatively lower altitudes , including the inland l − egions . Five hybr量 ds were ibund 孟 n lhe coas1al region aroulld Mt . Inao , and all 伽 e were S − type, On the other hand , Kugino had distribution pattems of Ccaspidata , the hyblid , and C sie わ otdii in order as the altitude increased . Thc distribution patterl 〕 s ofthree hybrid types were re ] ated to the distr ゐ utioll patterns ⊂ )f individua 正 s of the mo 出 er sp ies , The 負)rm of the Castano ρ stS nut was reluted to lhe distribution pattems of individuals of the mother species,
