Crossed-immunoelectrophoresis (CIE) with the first dimensional gel containing heparin (40 U/ml) was performed to investigate plasma antithrombin III (AT III) in two infants with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) syndrome who exhibited low or normal AT III levels, respectively. CIE with heparin in normal AT III revealed a fast anodal peak (immunoantithrombin III1 ; IAT III1) and two cathodal peaks (IAT III2, IAT III3). In these DIC infants, the cathodal components were higher than

In addition of TAT level, CIE analysis of AT III with heparin seemed to be useful for the diagnosis, pathogenesis and evaluation of clinical course in the patients with DIC.
