A large number of general Qur'anic Signs and multi-narrated Hadīth apparently contradict single-narrations in Sunnah. However, the Qur'anic Signs and multi-narrated Hadīth are superior in rank to Hadīth of single-narration. This condition gave rise to a dispute among scholars with regard to that contradiction. Some scholars supported the preference of the generalized absolute text being superior in rank, and the Hadīth, authentically attributed to the Prophet (PBUH). Other scholars thought of
more » ... holars thought of abrogation, while a third group thought of combining the "authentically attributed" text with the single-narration of doubtful authority, by way of specification. Namely, that the single-narration specify the generalized Qur'anic Sign and the multinarrated Hadīth, assuming that this helps avoid explicit contradiction. The paper, therefore, sought to demonstrate how scholars dealt with the issue of specification, their contradictory views in this respect, along with the evidence they presented and relevant replies that showed the strength of their evidence and views. The paper hence abounds with varied instances of the investigated specification issue.
