To understand the current phenomena of conducting clinical trials in the era of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and prepare for a change in conduct, it might be worth to understand the phenomena of clinical trials from the perspective of "institutional change". This short perspective paper will describe the basic concepts of institutions and institutional change and explore expected institutional changes in clinical trials as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
