... a proposal of educational innovation that optimizes the teaching-learning processes, favors the acquisition of professional competences and the strengthening of a civic-social commitment with the community. The University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) has initiated the process of institutionalization of the service learning, contributing to the consolidation and diffusion to different experiences that have gradually been emerging. The present work describes this development, emphasizing teacher training, educational innovation projects and the dissemination and recognition as the three pillars that support the strategy of institutionalization of service learning in the USC. The results obtained so far show the interest of a significant number of teachers on this methodology and its contribution to students education.
