In this research, we approach university autonomy, normative aspects that guarantee its exercise, and analyze emblematic episodes of threats, as well as confrontations and conquests, from the community of the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) to reaffirm this constitutional principle. On the other hand, situations of attacks and confrontations in episodes against the administrative and financial autonomy of the University are presented, such as the creation of campuses through state law and pressure from state political agents to the institution's managers in internal affairs. We conclude that the resilience of the academic community has made it possible to maintain university autonomy and we consider it salutary that the citizens of Mato Grosso have the necessary resistance to maintain this autonomy, including their political representatives.
