The floristic patterns of the Atlantic Forest can be explained by different environmental factors. However, recent studies have pointed to the influence of spatial factors on the structure of forest communities. In this study, we evaluated whether environmental and spatial variables influence the distribution of regenerative species in the Araucaria forest in

The environmental variables open-canopy and Ca/K content of soil were the most important predictors of floristic variations in the study area, explaining 9% of the species distribution, while the pure spatial structure explained 7% of the community structure. Although much of the floristic variation remained unexplained (75%), the results indicated the complex effect of environmental and spatial variables on the regeneration patterns of the Araucaria Forest in Southern Brazil.
