Planktonic foraminifera are present both in bottom sediments and surface waters on the shelf area averaging 400 metres in depth to the west of a line between Cape MClure and Cape Meecham, but in M'Clure Strait proper to the east of this line in the surface waters only. The evidence is used to suggest a slow net eastward movement of water from the ocean through MClure Strait in the past with increased rates at the present time. RÉSUMÉ.
