This research was aimed at improving students' activities and their learning achievement as well through cooperative learning model TPS type assisted with student worksheet. Based on the researcher's previous study at SMP Taman Siswa Padang, it was found that student's activities in paying attention to teacher's explanation and asking questions were still low. more » ... s a classroom action research which was conducted to the first year students at SMP Taman Siswa Padang. This research was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Based on the result of the researcher's observation on students' learning activities from the first cycle to the second cycle, there was an improvement on the number of students' activities which consisted of two indicators: activities in paying attention to the teacher's explanation was 67% and activities in completing student worksheet was 79%. Students' activities in the first cycle were in good category. In the second cycle, there were four indicators which were observed: students' activities in paying attention to the teacher's explanation was 98%, students' activities in completing student worksheet was 100%, students' activities in discussing was 84% and students' activities in correcting students' worksheet was 100%. Students' activities in the second cycle were in very good category. Students' learning achievement improved from 50% in the first cycle into 83% in the second cycle. Based on the result of the research, the researcher concluded that the use cooperative learning model TPS type assisted with students worksheet can improve the first year students' activities and their learning achievement as well in biology at SMP Taman Siswa Padang.
