The article discusses the main problems of the modern toponymic space of Karelia, related with the displaying of geographical names in official lists and their further using, with the gradual disappearance of traditional place names and the emergence of new ones, created without taking into account the patterns of toponymic nomination, and negatively affecting the image of the republic.
