Abstract: This study, carried out within sociophonetics analyses, seeks to describe the performance of the lateral liquid consonant /l/ in the position of a syllabic coda in a group of people from a community where the speech is influenced by the language used by its inhabitants. In order to investigate this, it is analyzed the oral production of 12 people, inhabitants of Arroio Grande/RS. They are divided into groups of bilinguals and monologues and also in three age groups. The data are submitted to three stages of analysis: hearing, statistical and acoustic analysis. The findings are similar in the three stages. In the hearing analysis are found characteristics that differentiate from the standard Brazilian Portuguese, and these characteristics are produced only by the people who belong to the older bilingual group. However, the younger people from the bilingual group present voiced sounds, very similar to standard Brazilian Portuguese. This finding is in agreement with the linguistictheories that claim that the voiced sound do not prevail over the speech of second language speakers.
