ABSTRACT High potential, creativity and personality Gifted children are often described as being creative. However, several authors consider that creativity is not an attribute of their intelligence, but an independent psychological characteristic being or not associated with an exceptional intelligence. Current models consider that creativity is underlain by multiple factors. Personality is an important factor, although influencing creativity only when in association with intellectual factors. This research was designed to appraise the specific influence of intelligence and personality on gifted teenagers' creativity. Creativity was measured using two tasks: a test of insight and a drawing test. We observed that the respective role of personality and intelligence varied according to the task. In the tasks of insight, individual differences were only influenced by personality. This observation was congruent with Schubert's hypothesis, which states that intelligence is no longer a factor of inter-individual differences in creativity beyond a given level. However, this hypothesis was not confirmed in the drawing tasks. In these tasks, intelligence was the major factor of inter-individual differences. The more intelligent were the teenagers, the more original and elaborated were their drawings. In conclusion, the respective influence of intelligence and personality in gifted children's creativity varies according to the facets of creativity.
