The Study of Radioactivity in Soil Samples from Al-Salaam Neighborhood in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorate, Iraq

An assessment of the natural radioactivity in Soil Samples from Al-Salaam neighborhood where the choice of 10 sampling site of the region, and collect two samples from each site of the first depth (0-10 cm) and depth of the second (10-30) cmto reach (20) sample and The gamma rays spectral measurements were done for all samples by using Iodide Sodium activated by Thallium NaI(Tl), its dimension 3"× 3". The mean values activity concentrations of 238U, 232Th and 40K was ( 5.53±0.36, 6.11±0.36 and
more » ... 07.33±1.69) Bq/ kg respectively, specific activity for all soil sample were in the worldwide average.The average values of the Radium equivalent activity and absorbed dose rate were (22.55±1.08Bq/kg and 11.06±0.47nGy/h)within the world average.The heist external and internal hazard and the outdoor and indoorannual effective doseand gamma activity concentration index were (0.0758±0.0038,0.0608±0.0028, 0.0133±0.0005mSv/yr , 0.0540±0.0023mSv/yr and 0.1696±0.0075)respectively, lower than unity.
