Feasibility of a novel single-beam overwrite method is discussed. The idea is to modulate the leakage field (HI) from the thermo-magnetic biasing layer with laser power. HI modulation is based on the different thermal response between the biasing layer and the storage layer, and on the steep spatial change of the magnetization in the biasing layer. The estimated HI is regarded as adequate to overwrite saturated domains.
