The article examines the main problems of preschool childhood as a period of creative mastery of the culture of the child. Childhood is defined in terms of its content and functional characteristics. Concerning the development of children from 3 to 7 years, major discussions and problematics are outlined, relating to child personality development and the mechanisms for its emergence.
