The research reported herein originated with a request from the ISHC to investigate the causes and possible countermeasures which they should employ to minimize the structural distress which was occurring in approximately 60 multiple span reinforced concrete bridges. The research has been successful in finding cause of the distress and the report provides recommendations for minimizing the difficulties which could become serious and expensive. The Report is forwarded for acceptance as fulfillment of the objectives of the research.
