The article is devoted to the study of national musical instruments in Karachay-Balkarian folklore, located in the center of folk life, able to convey its most treasured episodes in musical and poetic form. The source base of this study was the folklore works of oral folk art of this ethnos from the KBIGI archive, as well as from collections of folklore materials published in different years. ... famous epic monuments of Karachais and Balkars, Circassians and Ossetians. Its ritual and magical role in the life of folk heroes is revealed. Also in the article are analyzed «kobyzobraznye» instruments with hair strings «kyyl kobuz» and «kobuz». The melodies performed on these musical instruments reveal the national identity of Karachay-Balkar oral folk art. Attention is drawn to the sacred role of these instruments in archaic texts.
