Fibrates and statins are the most efficient drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and widely prescribed as lipidlowering drugs. Generally, these drugs are considered to be safe and well tolerated. However, both drugs are associated with severe adverse effects such as rhabdomyolysis, which may cause acute kidney injury. Herein, we report a case of statin plus fibrate combination-induced rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury that developed in a 50-year-old man who presented with muscle pains.

In conclusion, antihyperlipidemic drugs are prescribed widespread and when these medications are used, particularly as combination therapy, close monitoring should be carried out because of their potentially fatal side effects.
