Fiber Architecture Modeling for Engineered Composite Materials

This paper demonstrates, using specific examples, how fiber architecture modeling, using numerical and analytical tools such as pcGINA and TEXCAD, can be used to engineer the fiber architecture of woven fabrics and optimize the design of aircraft engine components made of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) and Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC). The second example demonstrates how fiber architecture modeling can be used to study the effect of different fiber architecture parameters on the mechanical properties of a 3D woven PMC composite.
