The physicochemical behaviour of surfactants derived from n-alkane phosphonic acids are critically reviewed. Emphasis is put on the properties of such acids and their mono and disodic salts both in anhydrous state and surfactant-water systems, and in catanionic mixtures. The changes in physicochemical properties derived from the possibility of changing the polar head charge from zero to-2 without modify the polar head structure, and some consequences arising from the structure of the interfacefatcat:rhtvf5eka5c3tciwiniiviybpa
