Natural Hazards, Diverse Economy and Livelihoods in the Sierra de las Minas, Guatemala

Residents of the small mountain community of Santa Rosalía in the Sierra de Las Minas, Guatemala, live with the threat of natural hazard events. Despite unpredictable seasonal rains and resulting challenges, residents continue living in remote and vulnerable circumstances. In our research, we use cartographic analysis, historical assessment and interview data to investigate the ways in which residents continue living in a place prone to natural hazards.
