How Important are the Sustainable Development Goals? A Bibliometric and Modern Data Analysis [chapter]

The Millennium Development Goals were adopted by the UN in 2000, the main objective being to reduce extreme poverty by 2015. This perspective from the beginning of the millennium was to shape the direction of the world towards sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all UN member states in 2015, offers a common perspective to follow in order to ensure peace and prosperity for people and planet. A bibliometric study is used to identify its research importance and to highlight the importance of the different goals of the UN: no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, etc., having into consideration the frequency of their appearance in academic literature and media. The paper starts from the premise that each goal represents an up to date topic in the research world.
