The medium blog is one of the gatekeepers of the phenomenon of personal selfrepresentation in the century of web 2.0 as it offers the user the chance of free and easy interchange of information with other users. As part of the distribution of the trend of public communication, participation and collective organisation, blogs establish itself as plattforms for public discussions. more » ... urther consequence proponents and opponents of film blogs fuel numerous debates which are summarized in the thesis. Further contents of the thesis are the investigation of the bloggers motivation, the different fields of application of film blogs as well as its effect on the development of writing culture. Followed by the first part of the thesis, which includes an introduction on weblogs, its organisation and distribution over the WWW, the second part deals with innovations and advantages which are offered by the blog media on the one hand, and with the occuring issues caused by online publication on the other hand. In general, this thesis shows an extensive investigation of high frequented film blogs as well as low frequented ones, which are proved for their quality in comparison with film blogs of the academics, film critics and authors David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson. Finally the content of thesis leads to the blogs special meaning for the development of film critics and concludes in an prospective view on the form of organisation and the working progress of writing film critics as print- and/or online format.
