EPMA and EBSD analysis of the chemical and structural changes in 16 wt% chromium stainless steel during deformation

In this study, four AISI 430 (EN 1.4016) steel samples of different initial composition and annealing treatment were submitted to uni-axial tension deformation. The assupplied and deformed materials were characterized by electron channelling contrast imaging, electron backscatter diffraction and electron probe microanalysis. The results show a clear correlation between chemical composition, annealing treatment and strain level obtained until fracture.
