RESUMO Este trabalho tem como objetivo mostrar a necessidade e a importância da presença do engenheiro clinico em hospitais para a solução de problemas técnicos e operacionais de tecnologias. ABSTRACT This work aims to show the need and the importance of the presence of the clinical engineer in hospitals to solve technical and operational problems of technologies. The methodology used was the application of a questionnaire in hospitals of different sizes, tabulating the data and showing the need for the professional of clinical engineering. The results obtained were that the hospitals that have this professional are more efficient in solving technical problems as well as those for operating the equipment. The outsourced service was one of the options, however the greatest efficiency was in hospitals that have the exclusive professional in the unit.
