Nuclear fusion driven by Coulomb explosion of homonuclear and heteronuclear deuterium- and tritium-containing clusters
2001
Physical Review A. Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics
The ionization and Coulomb explosion of homonuclear D n and T n (nϭ959-8007) and heteronuclear (D 2 O) n and (T 2 O) n (nϭ459-2171) clusters in very intense (Iϭ5ϫ10 14 -5ϫ10 18 W cm Ϫ2 ) laser fields is studied using classical dynamics simulations. The efficiency of the dϩd and dϩt nuclear fusion driven by the Coulomb explosion ͑NFDCE͒ is explored. The dϩd NFDCE of (D 2 O) n heteronuclear clusters is enhanced by energetic and kinematic effects for D ϩ , while for (T 2 O) n heteronuclear
