A polar compound was isolated from an aqueous acetone extract of Pinus densiflora inner bark and identified as D-catechin, (2R, 3S)-3, 5, 7, 3', 4'-pentahydroxyflavan. The compound stimulated oviposition of the cerambycid beetle, Monochamus alternatus when combined with a fraction of the same extract. The oviposition stimulant activity was enhanced by an unidentified compound from the extract. D-Catechin was inactive alone.
