The authors are developing the Virtual Survey Marking System (VSMS) for use in remote control construction of structures such as erosion control dams. Tests of the performance of this system in slope grading operations were recently conducted at Mt.Fugen at Unzen in Nagasaki Prefecture. In these tests it was possible to perform slope grading with a maximum precision of approximately 86% when the design slope gradient of the virtual reference marks was 1:1(100%).
