The present study is carried out for the determination of the proximate analysis, preliminary phytochemical investigation, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity by DPPH and FRAP methods. Successive soxhlet extraction was done using the solvents petroleum ether, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, methanol and double-distilled water (DDW) in increasing order of the polarity. The yield of the successive extracts was also determined. Preliminary phytochemical screening has shown the presence

Total phenolic content was found maximum in methanol extract followed by ethyl acetate extract with a very minor difference. The anti-oxidant activity was highest for the ethyl acetate extract by DPPH as well as the FRAP methods followed by methanol and diethyl ether extract, which is very much correlated with total phenolic content.
