The foreign trade deficit became one of an important problem for Turkish Economy after the" 24 th January Decisions" which is known and accepted as the beginning period of the openness and the transformation of the Turkish Economy. The progresses which were related with the production and consumption structures in the economy after 1980 caused exports to be less than imports. more » ... economic uncertainties and furnishing a sustainable foreign trade deficit became an priority for the Turkish Economy. According to this motivation, by using Turkish Statistical Institution three month foreign trade data, the long-term relationship between exports and imports in the 1989-2015 period in Turkey was tested with the vector error correction model. In the investigation period, there is a positive and a statistically significant relationship between exports and imports in Turkey. Moreover, import increase is an one sided Granger cause of export increase.
