In these days, it's not unusual for girls to find their way into the male preserve of football. But in most cases, the socialization of young female footballers differs considerably from a socialization that is "typical" for girls. The present thesis should filter out exactly those differences – if really existent. more » ... e a presentation of different theories of socialization and all kinds of relevant agents of socialization. Special attention should be drawn to the socialization into and through sports. Last but not least, it should be shown which prejudices, forms of discrimination and sometimes even identity conflicts young girls and women in football face. The second, empirical part of the thesis consists of ten interviews – conducted with young, talented female footballers – that should point out all the relevant socialization experiences of the athletes. One thing should be anticipated: None of the interviewees would describe their socialization as "typical" for a girl.
