The present study investigated hand massages performed by nursing students during hospital training for acute nursing. Subjects comprised third year students at A University who participated in hand massage skills practice before hospital training. The hand massages performed by students during skills practice had a relaxing effect, indicating that students acquired appropriate hand massage techniques. The present fi ndings clarifi ed that hand massage skills practice conducted before hospital training gave students the motivation and ability to perform hand massages during hospital training. Hand massage is a nursing skill that can be performed during hospital training as part of basic nursing education.
