A Laser-based Aggregate Scanning System (LASS) is being developed at The University of Texas at Austin. Using a computer-controlled linear motion slide, a laser line scanner is moved over aggregates spread out on a scanning bed to rapidly gather accurate, three-dimensional data. To analyze the raw data effectively, morphological methods and a group texture analysis method are suggested.
