Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a rare disorder. Evidence-based guidelines provide important information for hematologists, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations to other physicians with limited expertise in the field. However, guidelines in pediatric and adult ITP do not answer some imperative questions: which patient is at risk of severe bleeding and requires pharmacologic treatment?
