I n t h e c e n t r a l T a l k e e t n a Mountains, a band o f q u a r t z d i o r i t e extends a c r o s s t h e T a l k e e t n a R i v e r t h r o u g h an area mapped i n o l d r e p o r t s as m a f i c v o l c a n i c s , and connects w i t h a n o t h e r l a r g e g r a n i t i c p l u t o n t o t h e n o r t h e a s t . S i m i l a r l y , a n o r t h e a s t -t r e n d i n g b e l t o f Mesozoic o r o l d e r meta-sediments i n t h e l r o n Creek area a few m i l e s southwest
more » ... ds a c r o s s t h e r i v e r and connects w i t h a b e l t o f sediments n o r t h e a s t o f t h e r i v e r . T h i s b e l t o f sediments i s t h e h o s t f o r c o p p e r -i r o n d e p o s i t s i n t h e l r o n Creek area. I n t h e map area, t h e sediments a r e i n t e r l a y e r e d w i t h greenstone. Three m i n o r copper occurrences were found d u r i n g t h e mapping, and s t r e a m sediments d e r i v e d f r o m a p y r i t i c p h y l l i t e u n i t a r e m o d e r a t e l y t o s t r o n g l y anomalous i n copper c o n t e n t .
