were intact everywhere except those bordering on the margin of the small cavity. Here they showed some destruc¬ tion. The liver and the kidneys were pale and showed a moderate degree of cloudy swelling. The spleen had the character of an acute splenic tumor. Recurrence of lesions of the skin and of the mucous membranes during the course of an attack of syphilis while the case is off treatment are not uncommon,
