... illage. In this respect, İzmit sancak gained a narow meaning compared with the classical period. The existing structure was improved in the sancak system, which was influenced by through westernization efforts. Af ter the changes in the administrative divisions, a clear rise in demography was observed. Rapid increase in population and the migratian resulted the rapid land losses in Northwest Anatolia. The increased intensive labor force contributed to the economical development of the region. In this article, a city structure in which significant changes in administrative division and population occured is clearly seen. it is hoped that this study will make contribution to the studies on the history of the city.
