This thesis deals with the problem of the influence of electrode surface irregularities on the onset voltage of electrode configurations in air and with the deviations from the Paschen-dependence in compressed air. Measurements of the onset voltage of uniform and nonuniform fields with spherical surface irregularities in the diameter range from 0.2 -5 mm were carried out with d.c. and 50 Hz a.c. in the pressure range from 0,3 -30 bar.
