Previous studies investigating the association between X-ray repair cross-complementation group 1 (XRCC1) polymorphisms and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) risk has provided inconsistent results. To further evaluate the influence of XRCC1 polymorphisms on NPC risk, we conducted a meta-analysis in the Chinese population. To identify eligible studies, we searched on PubMed and Chinese databases through April 2016. To determine the strength of the associations, we utilized pooled odds ratios (ORs)

In general, our findings indicated that a significant association existed between XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism and the risk of NPC in the studied Chinese population, and there may be no association between Arg280His, Arg194Trp polymorphisms and NPC risk. In conclusion , this meta-analysis provides evidence that XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism is associated with NPC in the Chinese population. Further studies in other ethnic groups are required for definite conclusions.
