1864 The Lancet  
showed a Craniotomy Forceps, whose blade fenestrated, of the form of a very elongated horse shoe. It was composed of two parts, male and female; the former serrated deeply, the serrations pointing backwards, and fitting into the depression in the female part. The lock like Naegele's, and the handles fastening by a spring and rack at their extremities. This instrument he had tested practically, and found it answered admirably. more » ... jack-towel usually applied afler labour. It was made of stout calico, shaped to the abdomen and hips, having one bone for extra support in front. W hen adjusted, it could be fastened firmly either by bracket or laced like a corset. The advantages being, facility of application, combined with comfort and greater efficiency.
