The Cases M Town, Amagi City, Fukuoka Prefecture and S Villa, Karuizawa Town, Nagano Prefecture - Ch. Kimiko Takeda Mem. Mieko Bamba This paper explores sustainable living environments for elderly Japanese. Research results from two communities for seniors, M town and S villa, are analyzed. Both living situations have merits and demerits. The authors suggest that combining the merits of each would create an ideal living situation. Among the good points are: cooperation among community members,
more » ... community members, professional managers with autonomous decision-making power; full welfare support for the residents; residents can live with members of various ages of seniors and so create and maintain a supportive community; facilities provided by the management enable residents to pursue their hobbies and engage in volunteer activities.
