In its recent world health report, 1 the World Health Organization stated that: We are facing a worldwide epidemic of obesity, a key risk factor in type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and stroke, as well as various types of cancer. More than one billion adults worldwide are overweight, and at least 300 million of these are clinically obese.
