Paratuberculosis or Johne's disease in domestic livestock population is caused by the bacteria, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis. The disease in cattle is characterized by chronic granulomatous enteritis leading to diarrhoea (intermittent or continuous) followed by weakness and emaciation in the affected animals.
