The inhibitory activity of secretions in cattle against foot and mouth disease virus

A. J. M Garland
2013
Natural and induced factors inhibiting foot and mouth disease virus were investigated in bovine secretions, especially in those from the upper respiratory and oro pharyngeal areas. Techniques were devised to collect lachrymal, nasal, buccal and pharyngeal fluids from normal, convalescent and passively or actively immunised steers. The pH and total protein content of secretions were established in normal cattle. Immunoglobulin types IgA and IgGl predominated.
