DNA repeat domains can form ensembles of canonical and noncanonical states, including stable and metastable DNA secondary structures. Such sequence-induced structural diversity creates complex conformational landscapes for DNA processing pathways, including those triplet expansion events that accompany replication, recombination, and/or repair.
